Shigaraki ware kiln was founded in 1970 by Furutani Nobuo in Shigaraki, Shiga Prefecture, one of the six ancient kilns of Japan.

Nobuo, a leading expert in Kohiki, creates soft Kohiki tableware by firing it twice at low temperatures, and the "white" of the ware is expressed as a simple and warm white. It gently envelops any food and goes well with other tableware.
